I’d say yes, never did an ad for that purpose, once did for a failed attempt to sell job postings.

What in your opinion are the key ingredients which have turned craigslist into a success story? What's your vision for the next 5-10 years? What challenges do you anticipate?

Well, listening to our community and acting on that, that’s a big part of things.

We’re changing all the time, incrementally, in response to real user needs. Some of that change is internal, to keep the site fast, so you don’t see that.

I have a great idea. I am not a coding machine... I am almost illetrate in that matter. My idea involves a lot of real world interactions. So there is a lot to do apart from programing the thing so I am still very useful to the final product. What do I do... where do I reach out for technical guys? Wear a shirt saying "I need a hacker" in the streets of palo alto? Thanks Craig!

Hey Craig, We use CL as a model when we talk grassroots launch and simplicity, but just wondering if you worried about copy-cats taking the idea when you launched or if you did anything to protect your IP? Thanks!

We just move on straight ahead, doing what seems right. Not sure we have any IP in the sense you’re asking.
