Treat is as another marketing channel. Pick the marketing channels that are going to give you biggest wins first. We got into affiliate later, but have been having great success with it lately.

Hey Ryan. I'm developing my start-up (tumblr meets myspace meets bandcamp and a whole lot more) for the music sector by myself, keeping costs down and coding it alone. I know I'll need to seek investment at some point, mostly for the server infrastructure if nothing else. I have access to a list of all the people attending the demo day for an incubator in Austin, let's say that's similar to YCombinator. On the list are several investors and VC's, and of course other entrepreneurs. Would it be proper etiquette to find some of these folks on LinkedIn and ask to meet, or does it seem like I am stalking them?

If they are on linkedin it’s fair game. Investors need you as much as you need them.
